Quick History Lesson about Comforters
Throughout history comforters were created using whatever fabric was at hand,
often using an old worn blanket or comforter covered with a cotton fabric.
For those who grew up using just sheets and thin blankets, comforters can seem
like an incredible luxury. There are so many options when it comes to luxury
bedding today, it can be overwhelming. It is a far cry from what was available
during our grandparent’s time.
Comforters, however, are not a newcomer to the bedding scene. They have been
around in this country, as well as Europe and the United Kingdom, since its
beginning. Often a comforter is called a duvet, even in English speaking
countries. Duvet is a word that is of French origin, and is usually pronounced
"dove-ay". Depending on where you live in the United States duvet and comforter
may or may not be referring to the same thing.
Throughout history comforters were created using whatever fabric was at hand,
often using an old worn blanket or comforter covered with a cotton fabric.
Families that had more money would cover the fill material will silk fabric
instead of cotton. In both cases these comforters could not really stand the
test of time and tended to break down before long.
Choose from Many Different Kinds of Comforters
Today families have so many choices in styles and sizes when choosing a
comforter. You can find quality comforters to fit any bed size, from twin to
California king. Be sure to get a comforter that is wide enough to drape over
the edges of the bed, as comforters often slip somewhat during the night. You
can find comforters constructed using a wide variety of materials, from the
traditional cotton and silk to other materials such as polyester, wool, goose
down, feathers, or various combinations of materials. |
