The Two Different Kinds Of Comforters
The two types of comforters are down comforters and feather comforters.
Light, fluffy clusters of down are the best insulator. Tiny air pockets in a
down comforter expand when heat is generated from a body. One ounce of down will
provide three times the warmth of a synthetic fiber. Feather comforters are also
soft and cozy and are great at trapping heat. However, some people are allergic
to feather comforters, and this should be taken into account when choosing a
comforter for your bed.
Elegant silk comforters are made from a combination of silk and non-allergenic
material. Mulberry silk is best, as it is heavier than other silks. Cotton,
wool, and polyester can also be used as fillers for comforters. Some comforters
contain a combination of down and feathers. Feather filling is more resilient
than down, but a comforter with goose down filling is great for winter.
Caring properly for your comforter will help keep it looking and feeling great.
Generally, you should wash your comforter in cold water; however, read the
instructions on the label first. Dry your comforter on low heat or let it air
dry on the clothesline in good weather, but keep it out of direct sunlight. Wash
small stains with soap. Many manufacturers recommend that you take your
comforter to a dry cleaner. Read the label before you buy a comforter. Keeping
your comforter completely dry and moisture free is essential to preserving its
insulating properties. |
