When Looking for a Queen Comforter for Your Bed
When shopping for a warm comforter, look for the term “fill power,” which will
tell you how good a comforter is. In many households, comforters are standard
bedding. They range in price from inexpensive to ultra pricey. The right
comforter will add elegance to your bed and enhance your bedroom’s décor.
Choosing the right comforter, however, has as much to do with quality as it does
with appearance.
An inexpensive bed comforter is a bag-like covering for your bed that can be
filled with natural or artificial materials. This comforter is not normally used
to cover the pillows or box springs, but rather to provide a decorative touch to
the bed. Many bed comforters do not provide much warmth and must be used with
blankets and other bedding.
When shopping for a warm comforter, look for the term “fill power,” which will
tell you how good a comforter is. A higher fill power indicates higher quality.
A high-quality comforter will last longer than a low-quality comforter. Fill
power refers to the space occupied by one ounce of down in cubic inches. If a
comforter’s fill power is 800, it is of excellent quality. If it’s fill power is
700 to 600, it is of excellent to good quality. Anything below 600 is poor
quality. The fill power is determined by standard testing agencies.
Thread count, the number of threads contained in one square inch of fabric, is
important in determining the quality of a comforter. This term is also used to
judge the quality of sheets and linens. The higher the thread count, the better
the quality of the material and the softer the comforter.
